AI changes software development on two levels. First in the product: applications can now understand text, read documents, make suggestions and be operated in natural language. Second in the process: AI-assisted tools make it possible to build software much faster and with fewer defects.
I use both. The foundation is a proven, maintainable stack (Ruby on Rails, Hotwire, PostgreSQL or MySQL), extended with language models from Anthropic, OpenAI or locally hosted open-source models, depending on your data protection requirements. That way the software is still maintainable in five years.

- A web application with bills of materials, material prices and labour times. An AI reads customer requests (e-mail, sketch, specification) and proposes line items that an employee reviews and adjusts.

- Which technologies do you use?
- Ruby on Rails with Hotwire for web applications, Tailwind CSS for the interface, MySQL or PostgreSQL as the database. For AI features the models from Anthropic (Claude), OpenAI or open-source models running on your own server.
- Can you extend existing software as well?
- Yes. It is often more sensible to add AI features to a working application than to rebuild. I get into existing code and extend it carefully, backed by tests.
- Who owns the code?
- You do. You receive the complete source code, the documentation and, on request, a handover to your IT or another provider.
- How do you bill?
- Fixed price after a concept phase for well-defined projects, time and materials with a monthly overview for ongoing development. Both are discussed transparently upfront.
